| 7 August 2008 | Ollie has gotten right into the routine. He spends most of the day on the couch in the family room, comes to the door to go for walks, and goes upstairs at night and into the chair he sleeps in. That's a lot of progress. I think he's a little more appreciative of what he was missing while he was out exploring. He had been lost near the north end of the island, and that's where we were concentrating our search efforts. But Tuesday, at 3:00a.m., he was spotted near the airport (although it wasn't 'til 2:00p.m. that it was reported), which is at the south end of the island, so we moved our search down there. We decided to blanket that area with posters, and as we were getting organized around 4:00p.m., a call came from the police. He had been picked up by two separate men who were driving their cars on the east road along the Detroit River. They had seen him walking north on the road, pulled over and tried to pick him up. Of course, he was not getting close to anyone! So, he turned into an enclosed yard, and when he saw that he had no way to escape, jumped into the river. He got out about 50 yards, soon realized that was a mistake, turned back and the guys, standing on the end of a dock, fished him out of the water. They took him to the police station, where he was recognized. The men said that he shouldn't go back to where he came from, since he was obviously abused, but the desk officer explained the situation. Turns out we knew one of the guys. We took him to the vet, where he checked out O.K., except he had lost a couple pounds he didn't have to spare. We want to thank all of you for your help in getting us through this nightmare experience. It would have been so much harder without it. | ||||
| 4 August 2008 | Oliver, 2 years old, a black mask red male was enjoying the company of his family on their front porch in Gross Ile, Michigan Sunday August 3 evening when he became scared by a visitor; he panicked and in doing so, pulled free of his owner. Oliver is loose on the small island of Gross Ile, Michigan dragging a retractable leash. Oliver has been in his new home for 7 days and does not know his new neighborhood. If seen, do not approach, Oliver is scared of strangers. Please keep in your line of vision and call .... | ||||
| 28 July 2008 | After several days of intense grooming and caring for these beautiful dogs, they have all moved from AHRCO HQ onto foster and forever homes. Sweet, loving, seeks attention by pushing his head under my hand. Previously known as Dash, renamed Oliver by his new family, he is the first of the 4 to go to his forever home. He was neutered Friday and on Sunday met his new family for the first time. Follow-up reports from them today (Monday 7/28) indicate all is well. Oliver has found his favorite spot near the kitchen door where he’s hanging out. There are 2 resident Affies in the home to show him the rules of the house. (MA) | ||||
