| 4 September 2008 | Here's a column with an update on Edgar's progress: EDGAR | ||||
| 19 August 2008 | I just saw your post.... I am fostering Edgar Afghan Poe since last Mon.-went to get him from Dr. Ulrike Reinisch in CT ...want more than anything on earth to keep him....he is great in the house, great with my dogs and 3 legged cat, getting better on walks and in the car, but still spooked in the yard and by people, particularly men...

| 8 August 2008 | Edgar is now back on Long Island ! (JA) | ||||
| 4 August 2008 | Edgar has moved in with Charlotte. A budding romance - we do not know?? It is to help Charlotte a little bit. Edgar also made an appearance at the New Jersey match on Sunday with best friend Joanne Anderson who came to visit. Edgar happily wagged his tail to all the people he had previously met. He nuzzled ears with Afghan Owen who he had never met before and showed great progress towards recovery. Edgar is still in therapy and will remain so with Dr. Ulrike Reinish. (AS) | ||||
| 29 July 2008 | Saturday he left with Lisa Bryant to spend a few days at her house to go on to his foster home. Hurting more than Edgar was Joanne - this dog is her baby! Edgar will need a lot of work to stop worrying for all his old kennelmates and to go on with life. He has improved greatly and walked into his crate of free will and happily chewed his chicken breast and bully stick. We hope that Joanne and Edgar will be reunited soon. Edgar now freely walks in and out of Lisa's yard! Edgar still has a lot of confidence issues to battle and his recovery will be long and patient. (AS) Dr. Ulrike Reinisch arrived early from CT and spent hours observing the dogs, particularly withdrawn Edgar and shivering Charlotte, to see which would benefit the most from her fostering and magical TLC . Charlotte was chosen for a variety of reasons... Another cheese and treat party as the fosters began to arrive. Charlotte and Edgar (the wall flowers stayed in the background as more people came outside). Edgar began cheek puffing. Anna fitted the nervous trio -Charlotte, Jane, Edgar with lure coursing jackets as anxiety wraps. Anna & Christina prepared the comfy crates crates with clouds of paper towels... Jane turned Lisa's foster agreements into a bed. I am missing them already... Dramatic contrast between the way our precious pups looked in their crates the day they arrived and the day they left... Gloriously groomed, lured by juicy bones and chicken breasts, haloed by Rescue Remedy spray, each happier Hound crated up willingly... Cyrano left for Maryland, Charlotte for Connecticut, Dante, Whitman and Edgar with Lisa to Philly, Frost (Christina/Jules) and Jane (Sue) staying close by on LI... (JA) | ||||
| 25 July 2008 | Edgar is also still quite subdued, but coming along - he is about the same as Dante. he is definitely doing better!! will go into the outside run himself. he does enjoy the company and also loves petting and rubs and spending time with us. his eyes look calmer and more settled. he is so very sweet.!! (LR) ...I felt like Jane Goodall with cheese...Thurs, Edgar was a voyeur and non-participant...Whitman was partying on his own from a distance. Everyone had the happy look except for worried Edgar. By Friday, both boys had joined in the fun... On Friday, Charlotte was romping with the gang but the only one too nervous to partake of the cheese and liver treats...Ironically she had made a pig of herself on Thursday. Jane is adept at finding open run gates and moving the party inside with her siblings.. Everyone "takes food" with manners. (JA) | ||||
| 23 July 2008 | Edgar after his groomEdgar looks much more relaxed and is not glued to the wall or corner. He even stood up for JA when she had a treat - great improvement from Sunday when we had to carry him everywhere. (CW) | ||||
| 22 July 2008 | Edgar just wants to be loved and is in love with JA., was happy to see me and be pet but totally relaxed with JA. (JW) Everyone is definitely doing better - YEH !!!! I was so happy to see that Edgar was not glued to the wall and was more comfortable and a tad more confident and happy for the loving. (LR) | ||||
| 21 July 2008 | leash training! Even Edgar walked! shown with Frost | ||||
| 20 July 2008 | "Edgar Afghan Poe" is still living on the 'dark' side like his namesake. stunning ... Incredible face and markings, super expressive eyes, widow's peak.. A.M.: Would not come out of the crate, buried his head in the corner.. But...Responded to my petting, massaging, even started to go belly up, but the Afghan drama continued throughout the day.. had to take the crate apart to lift him into the run. Then he buried his head in corner of the run...Spent about another hour doing TTouch type circles on him...He loves this, but is still glued to the corner...trying to put his nose under the rug...Wouldn't take any chicken...Put it on his tongue, after 3rd attempt he licked and swallowed it...Super sweet, lets you touch him everywhere, even foot pads...He lets me lift his head, open his mouth to put chicken inside...I even put my head on his side...He's a sweetheart.. Afternoon: I came back with chicken and rice about 2:30...Ate it lying down... Walked away to feed his sibs...Came back and he was licking his bowl clean in the Sphinx position.... I love this guy.....I do think he will come around slowly ...He is too interested in the good things that are beginning to happen to him... None of these 3 are afraid of loud noises.. Kennel is across street from RR tracks- Trains do not faze them.. Power washing didn't bother them either...Frost is the only one of the 3 we have seen stand up...(JA) | ||||
| 19 July 2008 | VERY sweet and very pretty. I believe the domino is anywhere from 3 to maybe 5 tops ... there is no aggression whatsoever ... the ordeal that the y have endured and they are darlings. I am worried about the domino - he is so very sweet and so handsome, but very very traumatized ... clams up to the back of his crate - head bowed and tucked ... would not come out - we pet and stroked him and he accepted that just fine, but is very troubled at the moment .... had to remove the crate top and I lifted him out into the run. Again, he huddled to the wall with head tucked ... completely broke my heart!!!oh, I am such a cry baby. Wish I could have brought them all home!! oh well...... it is truly heartbreaking. The domino just needs LOTS of time, patience and TLC ... I think he will be a real love once he knows he has a home. (LR) | ||||
