Scarlet and puppy Pippi

Scarlet (fka Splash) is a 6 yo female Black Masked Red, who, due to a lack of room at the shelter, was initially boarded at the veterinary clinic, where she received the trim she sports above.

Her foster home reports:

What should we say - a Gem in a miniature package. Probably not more that 23'', will probably be 45 lbs at her heaviest. Very happy, very sweet, not scared at all. Is not too fond of the car yet. Rides best in a crate, 400 size. But we are working on back seat riding. Totally friendly, not a mean bone in her body. She can bark if she is eating and one of the other dogs comes up to her crate. So far clean in the house if let out and walked on a regular schedule.

She will steal anything remotely edible. Knocks over garbage cans if allowed. Walks up to strangers with a wagging tail.  We have not let her in the big yard yet but in our small yard she runs around and plays with toys. She is so weak now from malnutrition and probably nursing puppies not to long ago that we only let her play with our whippet. They get along fine and she is not bothered by our 100 lbs Giant Schnauzers either.

Scarlet loves petting and rubbing and sitting close. She is eating great and is learning what marrowbones and cookies are. She has a calcified elbow cyst that will be permanent they think.

Perfect on a leash - we have her on a harness right now since her neck muscles are still so weak.

She is not fazed by children or cats.

Health:

Heartworm negative, Lyme negative, was treated for every possible internal parasite. Might need one tooth removed. Looks like injury more so than disease.

Will have to gain weight before vaccinating and spaying. Is under veterinary care for malnutrition and skin rash due to caked on dirt and feces. Much better already.

Had cyst on left side that turned out to be filled with fluids and deflated completely when drained.

Ears are clear!

Has turned into the most charming house pet anyone can long for.  Plays like mad when allowed but calms down immediately you ask her to just curl up with you.

She is a ham and is starting to get spoiled on the food thing! Oh well - I will spoil her mad - She deserves it! She loves her crate - she is allowed total freedom but chooses to sleep in her crate. It's her first own room - hey we all know what it's like when you get that first one. I imagine posters and pink pillows in there!

We love her and she loves us but she would love anyone that gives her a home! What a darling she is. Her skin has cleared up and she is off any sort of medicament for her skin issues. Her second round of shots will be Tuesday and she will be spayed in 10 days after that and then she is ready for adoption!

Pippi (Scarlet's puppy) and Scarlet would be a great match to go as a pair if anyone is interested. They play all day long with each other!  (February 23, 2007)
