PIPPI HAS BEEN ADOPTED!

Pippi, short for Pippi Longstocking, is an 8 wo Black Masked Red puppy bitch, who is out of Scarlet (fka Splash).

Pippi is being fostered in NY, and her foster home reports:

She was not doing so good the first night... she was very dehydrated and received fluids every six hours. She slept most of the first 24 hours here but ate anything we put in front of her. Very infected with all the parasites named before, just imagine battling these odds on your own with adult dogs around and being 8 weeks old and weighing less than 8 lbs with no human help or even remotely correct food for a growing pup.

Her legs are very bowed at this point and one front leg is weird looking. At this point we are just worrying about pulling her through. She will se the vet tomorrow Tuesday and we are already treating the worms and the parasites. Sweetest Afghan pup I met in a long long time - just totally starving for attention.

Tonight Monday she is doing a lot better and is playing with after being re-united with her sister Tallulah. Pippi looks scary skinny right now but on her long skinny crooked legs she is bouncing around enjoying being alive!

She will need an orthopedic evaluation and possible x-ray before adoption can be made. Ear mites, staff infection and malnutrition on top of all the other. Not that Pippi cares - kisses you and hugs you!

Oh news... Pippi is scented! Good scent - not the nasty one she had before!

Puppies are doing much better! They are very active for short periods. Still very skinny! We are just trying to get fatter now

Has also gained weight but not so much. She is scented!! Very strong lovely musk scent!

She was playing with the vaccuum cleaner yester day. Not afraid at all.

Skin looks better and her eye tearing has subsided.

They both love snow!

Pippi has been seen by an orthopedic vet who tells us that her leg (bowed, rear) condition is the result of malnutrition (insufficient calcium in the diet).  Several of the other Afghan Hounds suffer from similar conditions.  Nutritional supplements are now being administered, and it is hoped that Pippi's condition will correct.  (Feb 9, 2007)

Attended her first puppy class yesterday and was the star of her group! She is smart as a whip and has huge dog skills. She can still be a little timid when new people enter her circle but recovers much quicker now.

Her leg is 65% better and people who saw her when she first came out of the hell hole cannot believe how well it is doing. Pippi fits with small or large dogs and is 90% perfect on leash in her puppy harness.

Perfect in a crate, quiet and the most charming naked afghan you can ever wish for!
She will have her second round of shots on Monday and is ready for adoption!

Pippi and her mommy Scarlet would be a great match to go as a pair if anyone is interested. They play all day long with each other! (February 23, 2007)
