and only months prior...

Before

Mickey is a very sweet 2 yo male, who stands 25" at the withers and weighs 40 pounds. Because his coat length was so short, he didn't lose very much hair during his first groom in foster care. He is VERY patterned. Poor fellow had an infection of his prepuce, swollen lymph nodes, giardia, roundworms and hookworms. His foster home Judy Hein (Eastern PA) reports that he is very intelligent, is walking well on leash, eating well, and is a personable fellow. He has come a long way in just a few days, from the shy guy who wouldn't budge on a leash. And he smells better now too! He is a bit nervous around moving cars. Judy writes: Mickey went to PetsMart today. He was like a kid in a candy store. He had so much fun. He rode loose in my car. Sat on the passenger seat and just watched the world outside his window. I can't believe how far he's come in just a few days. At PetsMart, he went wild for the Great Danes that were there and let everyone pet him. Never backed down from anyone. He was happy to be there, and I was happy to see him happy. _______________________________________________________________ Mickey went to his appointment. He got another good go-over and all looks great. Lymph nodes are still a little swollen, don't know why? But all he's been though could be the reason. Vet doesn't think it's anything to worry about. No worms, giardia or lyme (snap3) (good). Skin scrapings found nothing, don't know why he is itchy. It's not bad so we aren't worrying about it. He has ear mites, there's a big shocker! Treating ear mites with Tresaderm. Urinalysis showed white blood cells, so we are doing two weeks of Clavamox. He thinks the infection is still there. But on the good side, no crystals in the urine! Rabies vaccination done (he's good for 3 years) and bordetella vaccination was done. Next week he is due for the second round of shots. Here is the best news!!!!!! when he arrived here, he weighed37lbs. He tipped the scale at 42lbs last night! That's over 10% his body weight in 3 weeks. See what no worms and good food will do. I like to see about 2 more pounds on him. But that's going to be hard. He is starting to save his food for later. Feb 14th is his appointment for neutering, microchip, nails clip and teeth clean. (Feb 2, 2007) ___________________________________________________________________________________Just wanted to let you know, Mick is out of surgery and doing great. My vet always calls me, once they are up and alert. The veterinarian told me that he is a sweet & good boy and all the girls just love him. His teeth are clean and in great shape. We didn't lose any teeth! I am sure he will be sore, but we will stop for a hot dog on the way home. Mick loves hot dogs! It almost killed me last night to take away his food and water. It's the first time he didn't have food or water since leaving the horrible place. I asked my vet to make sure he gets some water and a few cookies. That dog will never want again!
